Oddessy of the Mind (OM)
Oddessy of the Mind is a national organization for students who want to expand their minds. In our school there is one OM team consisting of seven students in grades nine through twelve. Our feeder school, East Hardy Early Middle Childhood School, also has several OM teams. Each team must pick a problem from a list that has been supplied to all the schools in the nation who are participating in OM. The team must then solve their problem and be able to present it. The problem topics range from drama, such as rewriting Shakespeare, to engineering, building balsa wood structures. Each problem has specific rules to follow. For instance, in some problems, the team must compose a song. In others all the teams props and materials must fit in a certain size box.Oddessy of the Mind builds cooperation skills and leadership abilities. This club is especially good for young students as it will help them through high school and, later, college experience.
