5.

Elizabeth Lewis.

Elizabeth was born in 1796 in Sweet Springs, Botetourt, Virginia.  She died 09 Nov 1871 in Sweet Springs, Monroe, West Virginia.

We presume here that she is the daughter of John Lewis and Mary Preston.  However, her relationship to the family of John Lewis (an early settler of Augusta County) is unconfirmed.  According to the 1810 Census, John Lewis, a grandson of John Lewis (the "founder") and son of William Lewis (an early settler in Sweet Springs), did have a daughter who was born about the same time as our Elizabeth.  Other sources list a daughter named Elizabeth for John Lewis and Mary Preston born in 1806.  The LDS Family History Library shows Elizabeth Lewis (m. Elijah Wickline) was born in 1796 although no parents were named.

It is possible that Elizabeth Lewis Wickline is related to the Lewis family described in the previous paragraph; however, I have found no conclusive data thus far to support that proposition.  Therefore, I include the relationship here for the sake of research only and will continue to investigate the Lewis family to determine if the relationship is valid.  With so many Lewises in Alleghany and Monroe counties, as well as the frequent use of the same names, it is often hard to determine relationships.

Elijah and Elizabeth were married 08 Jan 1821 and had ten children:
