Generation 1



1.

Elinor Royce King.

Elinor was the oldest daughter of Joseph Milton King and Mary Davis Royce.  She was born 30 May 1915 in Washington, DC.  She attended and graduated from old Western High School in the District in 1933.  Elinor enjoyed riding and could often be found at the stables in Rock Creek Park.  She was a bookkeeper for United Clay Products Company before she was married.  She was very well read and, in particular, enjoyed reading historical novels.  She died 31 Mar 1988 in Charlestown, Jefferson, West Virginia.  Per her request, she was created and her remains are in the possession of her family.

David Ray Harris.

David was the youngest son of Ray Douglas Harris and Mabel Pearse Golden.  He was born 21 Oct 1916 in Waltham, Essex, Massachusetts.  He moved to Washington, DC to live with his sisters Ruth and Edie about 1936.  He attended the Farm and Trade School on Thompson's Island in Boston Harbor between November 1931 and June 1934.  He received a diploma on 15 Jun 1934 for completion of the requirements in the course for sloyd (woodworking) and mechanical drawing.&nbs; He worked for DC Transit until his retirement in 1978.  He died 01 May 2003 in Clinton, Prince Georges, Maryland and was buried 06 May 2003 at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, Charles, Maryland.

Elinor and David were married 29 May 1941 in Rockville, Montgomery, Maryland and had three children:

Generation 2



2.

Joseph Milton King.

Joe was the son of William Alexander King and Mary Catharine Ryan.  He was born 30 Aug 1892 in Baltimore, Maryland.

In 1917, Joe was a machinist for Washington Terminal Co., Ivy City shops, Washington, DC.  He registered for the draft on 05 Jun 1917.  His registration card gave the following information:  physical description — tall, medium build, blue eyes, brown hair; age 26; resided at 1202 North Capitol Street, NW, Washington, DC; married, sole support of wife and two children. He died 12 Dec 1978 in Irving, Dallas, Texas and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Paris, Texas.  His death certificate lists him as a retired engineer from Westinhouse.  His cause of death was given as pneumonia and sepsis.  Long term health problems included Parkinson's disease, diabetes and ulcers.  His DC states he was married but does not provide a space for his wife's name.

3.

Mary Davis Royce.

Mary as the daughter of Herbert Leslie Royce and Lillie Caroline Ubhoff.  She was born 16 Aug 1891 in Washington, DC.  Mary was married twice (1st) Joseph Milton King and (2nd) John Thomas Brown (before 1942; they had no children).  He preceded her in death in Jan 1965.  Mary worked for a number of years as a receptionist/secretary for Silverman Real Estate in Washington, DC.  She died 8 Mar 1980 in Rockville, Montgomery, Maryland.  At the direction of her daughter, she was cremated and her remains were buried in Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington, DC with her second husband.

Joseph and Mary were married 7 Jul 1914 in Baltimore, Maryland and had two children:

4.

William Alexander King.

William was the son of George W. King and Rachel Ann Clark.  According to his death certificate he was born 12 Jul 1871 in Howard County, Maryland.  He died 2 Apr 1946 at his home in Washington, DC.  At the time of his death he was 74 years old. Cause of death was listed as coronary occulsion due to arteriosclerosis and heart disease.  He was a retired engineer.  William was buried in Ft. Lincoln Cemetery on 5 Apr 1946.

5.

Mary Catharine Ryan.

Mary was the daughter of Joseph Ryan and Mary Agnes Sweeney.  She was born in 24 Dec 1868 in Baltimore, Maryland. She died 30 Aug 1959 at home in Washington, DC.  On 2 Sep 1959, a requiem mass was conducted at St. Aloysius Church with burial in Ft. Lincoln Cemetry.

William and Mary were issued a marriage license 13 Aug 1890 in Baltimore, Maryland.  No marriage date was shown.  They had five children:

Generation 4



6.

George W King.

George was the son of George (Samuel) King and Juliann[a] Duvall.  He was born 28 Apr 1843 in Howard County, Maryland.  George served in the Civil War.  He enlisted 16 Dec 1861 in the Independent Co. of Infantry known as the Patapsco Guards.  He was mustered out 16 Dec 1864 and received a pension for his service on 26 Sep 1889.  He died 17 Jan 1918 in Baltimore and was buried in St. Mary's Episcopal Church Cemetery.

7.

Rachel Ann Clark.

Rachel was the daughter of Alexander Clark and Orpha Knight Cavey.  She was born 8 Mar 1842 in Howard County, Maryland.  She died 17 Feb 1905 in Baltimore and was buried 19 Feb in St. Mary's Cemetery.

George and Rachel were married 1 Jul 1866 and had five children:

8.

Joseph Ryan.

Joseph was the son of William Ryan (b. abt. 1810 Maryland) and Eliza Robinson (b. abt. 1817 New Brunswick, Canada).  He was born about 1846 in Baltimore, Maryland. 

9.

Mary Agnes Sweeney.

Mary was the daughter of John Sweeney and Bridget LNU.  She was born 10 Apr 1849 in Liverpool, England.  She died after 1920 probably in Washington, DC.

Joseph and Mary were married 18 Mar 1868 in Baltimore, Maryland and had seven children:

10.

George (Samuel) King.

According to the 1850 Census, Samuel was a shoemaker and was born about 1819 in Maryland.  Additional research needs to be done to identify his parents.

11.

Juliann[a] Duvall.

Juliann was born about 1820 in Maryland.  Additional research needs to be done to identify her parents.

Samuel and Juliann[a] were married 30 Jul 1842 in Howard County, Maryland and had six children:

12.

Alexander Clark.

Alexander was the son of Alexander and Rebecca Clark.  He was bp. 12 Jan 1795 at St. Marylebone Parish in Westminster, Middlesex, England.  He immigrated to Baltimore with his parents in 1795.  He d. 2 Feb 1843 in Baltimore.


13.

Orpha Knight Cavey.

Orpha was born between 1800-1810.  More research needs to be done to identify her parents.

Alexander and Orpha would have been married about 1823-4 based on the ages of their children in the 1840 Census.  They had eight children (four boys and four girls), however, I only know the name of their youngest daughter.

14.

John Sweeney.

John was born about 1815 in Ireland.  He emigrated to Baltimore from Liverpool, England on the ship Jane Henderson arriving with his wife and daughter in Apr 1852.  The names of parents and his exact place and date of birth have not been found yet.


15.

Bridget LNU.

Bridget was born about 1827 in Ireland.  She emigrated with her family and lived in Baltimore until her death on 3 Jul 1893.

John and Bridget were married either in Ireland or England where their oldest daughter was born.  They had at least five children:
